Easy job for KZN

Mike Harrison

KZN Country Districts picked up their second successive victory of the season when they beat Griquas by seven wickets at Addison Park on Saturday.
KZN dominated the match from start to finish with their bowlers setting the scene for what was a convincing victory. Winning the toss, Griquas had no hesitation in taking first knock on a good track. But they were pinned down by some tight bowling and with their discipline not being what it should be, they were soon in all sorts of trouble. Charl Groenewald 4/22, Ram Ramcharan 3/20 and Donny Cloete, M Iyer and A Maharaj, with one wicket each, had them on the rack from the opening over, dismissing them for a disappointing 123 in the 44th over. They just didn’t have the patience to work out the conditions, which were a little slow and were perhaps not what they are used to.
All the batsmen were caught with only T Haasbroek, their opening bat, managing to get a score of any substance.
He made 29 which was the top score of their innings. KZN took their time getting the required runs. They reached their target in the 34th over with seven wickets to spare. A Maharaj 29, Gary Bishop 15, Eugene Zwart 27 not out, and P Ramcharam 32, got the runs. H Cornelisson, P Leukes and F Holtzhauzen, with a wicket each, were the pick of their bowlers.
With two victories in as many games, KZN have had a good start to the 2006/7 season.

Cancelled
uThungulu’s clash with Hillary and Malvern at Malvern Park on Sunday was called off.
The wet weather over the past few days made it impossible to roll the wicket for the match.
The result will be treated as a draw. uThungulu will play Dawn Heights at Addison Park on Sunday 12 November. A vital clash in deciding who will top the log at the conclusion of the 45 over competition.
