Water supply restored

RESIDENTS at Amangwe Village were able to
divert an extended water crisis just before
the demise of their organic food garden and
the return of the crèche children.
Situated in KwaMbonambi, Amangwe Village
consists of 52 houses, a crèche for 40
orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), the
organic food garden and the independently
managed Ethembeni Care Centre.
The non-profit organisation was stranded
without water a few weeks ago after the
onsite borehole ceased to operate.
However, with the swift assistance of the
Mbonambi Municipality, the uThungulu
District Municipality as well as Richards
Bay Minerals (RBM), the water supply was
eventually restored after three days.
‘With the help of the municipalities, we
received emergency deliveries of water for
patients at the Ethembeni Care Centre and
the residents of Amangwe Village.
‘RBM also came to the rescue, covering all
costs incurred with the installation of the
new pump and cabling for the borehole at
Amangwe,’ said OVC Project Manager, Aaliya
Fransch. In addition, Amangwe Village has
expressed its gratitude for the support from
the municipalities, in highlighting their
plight as an NGO requiring support and
suitable infrastructure for the future.
‘After all the drama experienced over the
few days without water, we had a harsh
reminder about how precious water actually
is and how we take our privileges for
granted.
‘Fortunately, the water supply was restored
before the demise of the organic food garden
and the return of the crèche children after
their winter holiday,’ said Fransch.
