Old boys sitting on the top
Mike Harrison
RTOB scored a significant
Van Rooyen Cup victory on
Saturday when they beat
Melmoth 13-6 and moved to
the top of the log.
They have completed their
2006 fixtures with 27
points.
Mtuba who scored a walk-over
victory against Richards Bay
II, who failed to field a
side, is in second place,
two points behind.
They will be at home to
Melmoth in a match that will
almost certainly decide the
fate of the Van Rooyen Cup
on Saturday.
A win for Mtuba would make
them champions for the 2006
season and, together with
the Brockwell Cup, would
give them two trophies for
what has been a highly
successful season.
Should Melmoth repeat their
first round victory and pick
up a bonus point as well
then they will share the
trophy with RTOB.
However, should they win and
fail to score a bonus point
then the trophy goes to RTOB.
The odds favour a Mtuba
victory but Melmoth, who
beat both Mtuba and RTOB in
the first round, could
surprise everybody with yet
another victory and an added
bonus point.
Fire duty
A lot depends on the fire
situation in the Melmoth
district as this could rob
them of key men should they
be called out for fire duty
on this important occasion.
In the clash at Richtek
Campus on Saturday Andrew
Rowlings and Daren Ward were
try scorers with Mias
Potgieter adding a penalty.
Melmoth replied with two
penalties to give RTOB the
victory they wanted.
