Leopard attack drama

Dave Savides

A LEOPARD that seized the throat of a woman fetching water at a river was killed by a passer-by armed only with a spear. According to police, Nomusa Mncwango (22) had gone to draw water at the Vuntshini River at Mtholo near KwaMsane at about 4.30am on Sunday. She died as a result of her wounds. Thengukuthula Mlambo arrived at the scene and was also attacked by the leopard, but he managed to overpower it and stabbed it with his spear. In the process, he sustained serious wounds to his body. According to local residents, the leopard is one of four that escaped the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve.
