Crime hotline for Brackenham

Brackenham Minister's Fraternal Chairperson - Pastor Timothy Harry donates a cell phone for the Brackenham Sector Policing Initiative to Superintendent HZ Mthembu, while Superintendent Dennis Nene, Station Commissioner Senior Superintendent - Danie Calitz and Pastor Daniel Munsami look on

A COMMUNITY based crime prevention forum in a local suburb in Richards Bay, has introduced innovative and proactive measures to combat crime in the area.
The SAPS Sector Policing Initiative, which is a pilot project in Brackenham, has now set up a dedicated crime reporting line for Brackenham.
This, after the Brackenham Minister’s Fraternal donated a cell phone to the Richards Bay SAPS on Friday.
Citing the inefficiency of the 10111 Emergency number, Brackenham Minister’s Fraternal Chairperson Pastor Timothy Harry said the designated cell phone would be given to patrolling reservists and SAPS members in Brackenham so that members of the community could report criminal activities immediately, thereby speeding up response time.
Welcoming the donation, Head of Crime Prevention, Superintendent HZ Mthembu said they appreciated the commitment from the community to fight the war against criminal elements.
‘With the new cell phone for the sector policing initiative in Brackenham, we will be able to reduce delays, improve our effectiveness and boost our capacity to speed up service delivery in that area.
‘We hope that other areas will also communicate and co-operate with the SAPS to combat crime,’ said Mthembu. Applauding the SAPS for the progress made so far, Pastor Harry said the community had seen a visible decline in the number of hijackings since the start of night patrols in Brackenham.
‘As the Brackenham Minister’s Fraternal, we see the need to step in and help the SAPS reduce the incidents of hijackings and violence in our community.
‘We have supported the formation of the Sector Policing initiative in Brackenham and will ensure that it continues to be a successful venture,’ said Pastor Harry.Citizens of Brackenham are encouraged to make use of the service to report incidents of crime on 072 0987 773.
