Ammunition on schoolboy

Tanya Waterworth

A SIXTEEN year-old schoolboy was arrested on Friday morning at Richards Bay Secondary School for possession of ammunition.
Richards Bay Police have confirmed that dagga was also confiscated on the same day.
And according to Pastor Daniel Munsami, Chairman of the Governing Body, the school has turned the corner following a total clamp down on ill-disciplined students and suspected drug abuse within the school, including a shock police raid two weeks ago.
‘On Friday, we introduced a card system to enter the school and a compulsory dress code.
‘We have seen a tremendous change in the pupils in the last week and believe order and dignity is being instilled back into the school.
‘The majority of pupils are here to learn and they deserve a safe, ordered environment at the school,’ said Munsami.
Written warnings have been given to 18 children and if they transgress these, they will be suspended and the school will motivate for expulsion, depending on the transgression.
‘But we are also looking at ways to rehabilitate some of these children.
‘We would like parents to come forward and help us with programmes and finding a solution for these troubled teenagers.
‘We would also like to appeal to the community at large for assistance,’ said Munsami.
He added that such programmes could include sport as there are currently no sport activities offered at the school.
‘We would also like to place on record that some of our staff have really gone the extra mile to rectify the situation.
‘The message we have sent is quite clear and there is a much more positive feeling in the school,’ he said.
