Tight lines for fishermen
Zululand Light Tackle
Boat Angling Association (ZLTBAA)
competed in the Light Tackle
Boat All Coastal Tournament.
The tournament was fished
over three days, in
extremely good conditions.
ZLTBAA had two teams
competing in the A and B
sections.
Day one
ZLTBAA was in second
position, only 0.5kg ahead
of KZN with Border in first
place, 50 points ahead.
Ian van Lelyveld caught a
butterfly ray of 14.5kg
which was also the biggest
inedible for the tournament.
Day two
Proved to be a stumbling
block for Zululand, as they
failed to catch fish.
Most fish caught were small
butterfly rays between
2-5kg.
At the end of the day ZLTBAA
was third behind Border and
KZN.
Day three
Zululand consolidated and
maintained their third
position.
All fish were weighed in
hammocks and released
unharmed back to the sea.
A lot of work has gone in
changing the ethics of LTB,
so that all fish are return
alive to the sea with
minimal stress and damage to
the environment.
Richard van Lelyveld was
placed second in the junior
section and he was also
second overall in the
individual standings.
Richard has been selected to
represent the SA Light Boat
Angling Association at the
next championship later this
year.
