ON 12 August, Zululander
Dr BJ Mdluli was ordained as
Bishop of The Holy Banner of
the Ethiopian Apostolate
Church at a ceremony in
eSikhawini.
Born in Mtubatuba, the
bishop lives in Kwamsane
with his wife Fikile
Elizabeth and their seven
children.
He is taking over from
Bishop Lucas Bukhali who is
102 years old and ready to
retire.
The church was established
in 1937 and has branches in
KZN, Limpopo, Gauteng,
Mpumalanga and the Eastern
Cape, with a total of 212
churches with an average of
50 people per congregation.
The Bishop believes that the
strength of his church lies
in the fact that they care
for families after they have
suffered a bereavement,
besides providing orphans
with food, blankets and
clothes and supporting a
youth programme.
They are also building a
church primary school in
Mtubatuba.
Over 5000 people attended
the inauguration, including
212 new members; this
prompted the church to save
for an auditorium of their
own which will hold 12 000
people.
Dignitaries at the
inauguration included
Professor G Mhlongo and
Bishops Jele, Khumalo,
Buthelezi, Khumali, Radebe,
Mkoba and Nkwanyane who are
all from different
denominations. Bishop Mdluli
would like to thank them for
their support.
