Drive through destruction

The smashed up restaurant and angry owner, Martin Fourie

Tanya Waterworth

A RESTAURANT in the Small Craft Harbour suffered extensive damage after a car smashed through the middle of the premises.
Police are calling on the community to assist with information regarding the incident which happened in the early hours of Monday 21 August.
Owner of Doc Side Den, Martin Fourie said he was distraught to find his business wrecked when he arrived at work.
‘The security guard heard a huge crash and ran to the scene, only to spot a vehicle speeding away.
‘From the tyre tracks, it appears as though the driver tried to turn the corner and missed.
‘I am just thankful it did not happen while patrons were in the restaurant,’ said Fourie.
The vehicle crashed through one side of the restaurant, sending tables and chairs flying into the back of the room.
Recordings from the port security cameras are currently being checked and police are investigating the case.
The road running alongside the restaurant is a known hotspot for drag racing over the weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Porter on 035 9012419.
