City exco truce
Dave Savides
CITY of uMhlathuze Exco
members put their
differences aside on
Tuesday, generally
discussing agenda items in a
cordial and pleasant manner.
However, this belied the
situation resulting from the
defeat of an ANC motion to
dismiss Mayor Denny Moffatt
last Thursday.As reported,
this occurred after the
meeting was declared closed
by ANC Speaker, Cllr Elphas
Mbatha - or following a
walkout by the ANC while the
meeting was still in
progress, according to the
IFP alliance.
The ANC said yesterday that
they would not take court
action over the disputed
views, but would rely on the
transcript of the meeting to
validate their position
(that the meeting had
officially been declared
over).
In addition, the ANC said
they had been to the
Richards Bay Police Station
where they lodged a case of
intimidation against senior
IFP member, Cllr John
Harvey.
This after all members of
the IFP alliance showed
their completed ballot
papers to Harvey, who duly
recorded their votes.
The way forward remains
unclear at this stage.
What is certain is that the
present ‘truce’ cannot last
while issues concerning the
Mayor, Deputy Mayor and
Speaker remain unresolved.
