Just for the record, Lemmings committing suicide is largely a myth. But these sheep are for real.
In Turkey nearly 1,500 sheep decided to jump off a nearby cliff, for no apparent reason. Shocked shepards watched the huge herd, consisting out of the collective sheep from a local village, suddenly take off and run over the edge of the field they were grazing on. Ironically only around 450 died - the cushion made by the dead bodies stopped the rest from killing themselves.
"There's nothing we can do. They're all wasted," Nevzat Bayhan, a member of one of 26 families whose sheep were grazing together in the herd, was quoted as saying by Aksam. The town of Gevas is where the tragedy struck and the damage is estimated at around $100,000. But in human terms it's a lot owrse - the people from this community rely heavily on their sheep; each family having a flock of around 20.
